Tonight we focus on the needs of Aging Adults. AgeWell Services supports seniors to live independently at home in Oceana, Muskegon, and Ottawa Counties. The financial contributions you give tonight will help fund – Meals on Wheels, Senior Medical Transportation, Lunch & Activity Centers, Wellness Center, Senior Center Activities and SafeSeniors! Andy O’Riley
Andy O’Riley is the founder of O’Riley Media and Publisher of Positively Muskegon, The Muskegon Channel and O’Riley Media manages Channel 96 Public Access Television for the City of Muskegon. After nearly 30 years in commercial radio, Andy saw the need to bring media back to a more local presence as other outlets centralized programming and publishing. The position of The Muskegon Channel sums it up best, “We have a New Story to Tell” and that is one of Muskegon as a resilient and valuable community with people who have value and purpose.

Gary Nelund
Gary is the owner of Gary Nelund State Farm Insurance and has been the Mayor of Norton Shores since 2009. He is married to Angie Wasserman-Nelund, owner of Wasserman’s Flower Shop. Together they have two teenage children and live in Norton Shores.

GREATEST NEEDS AUCTION

Bid an amount to help reach the goal for items that are in great need!

#1 – Greatest Needs Auction
Replace the engine of a 2015 Ford Taurus used for Senior Medical Transportation – total needed $6,000
Why it is a greatest need: A social worker at a local dialysis center shared that transportation is one of the top 3 barriers for patients. The Senior Transportation Program provided 9,052 non-emergency medical transportation rides with 272 volunteers and traveled 105,751 miles last fiscal year 2020-2021. There are 10 vehicles in the fleet and AgeWell needs them all operating.

#2 – Greatest Needs Auction
A seated elliptical machine for the Fitness Room at the Wellness Center at Tanglewood Park – $3,945
Why it is a greatest need: For the health of it, of course! Did you know that nearly 700 aging adults participated in at least 1 program that included the fitness machines at the AgeWell Wellness Center? It’s true! Plus, seniors can burn 800 calories per hour with zero impact on painful joints, improve their range of motion and circulation with this bike and socialize with peers!

#3 – Greatest Needs Auction
Feed a homebound senior for 1 year with nutritious meals delivered to their door. The visit from their friendly driver helps the senior to feel more secure and less lonely -$1,680
Why it is a greatest need: AgeWell delivered 248,991 nutritious meals to homebound seniors last year. These meals are more than just a meal. Every meal provides a wellness check and a friendly face. 60% of our Meals on Wheels participants shared that their Meals on Wheels drivers is their only social contact for the day.

#4 – Greatest Needs Auction
Sponsor a Safe Seniors Lunch and Learn. This one-hour training helps seniors prevent elder abuse and scams – $800
Why it is a greatest need: 1 in 10 older adults are victims of abuse, neglect or financial exploitation. 1 in 24 cases of abuse are reported to authorities. 1 in 44 cases of financial exploitation are reported to authorities. Older adult abuse, neglect and financial exploitation happens in our own community, which is why education and outreach is vital. 11,414 individuals participated in trainings or received outreach materials to learn about preventing abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of seniors.

#5 – Greatest Needs Auction
10 Anti-Fatigue Mats for Tanglewood Park Kitchen – $560
Why it is a greatest need: These mats will help to support team members who prepare the 328,222 total meals, which includes Meals on Wheels and Lunch & Activity Center Meals.

#6 – Greatest Needs Auction
Air Mover Carpet/Floor Blower to dry Tanglewood Park kitchen floor – $250
Why it is a greatest need: This blower will keep AgeWell volunteers and team members safe!

#7 – Greatest Needs Auction
Provide door-to-door, non-emergency medical ride for low-income Muskegon County seniors. Support a round trip for $50 or a 1-way trip for $25
Why it is a greatest need: Senior transportation gave 9,052 rides last year! To our knowledge, this is the only program like this in Muskegon County.
